Dental emergencies come in all shapes and sizes and may include:
If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms or tissues, call Stuart Smiles and ask to be seen as soon as possible, and we will try our best to get you in to see one of our expert team members. The rule of thumb for easing pain in the meantime is taking an over-the-counter pain medication that works for you and holding an ice pack to the sore tooth. Avoid heath – heat will make things worse instead of better.
Here are a few tips and tricks for common dental emergencies you may encounter:
Broken teeth can nearly always be saved. If it’s a small break, we may use a white filling to fix the tooth. If the crack is more serious, we may perform a root canal.
If there’s bleeding, press down on the part of the mouth that is bleeding. Use a clean cloth, and add an icepack to keep the swelling down if you can. If the bleeding does not stop, go to the emergency room.
Try a saltwater rinse to reduce pain and inflammation if you have a persistent toothache. You can also try elevating your head while sleeping to decrease pressure—finally, ice, ice, ice. Ice is your friend and can be helpful for facial swelling.
